ODAA Launches “Year of the Child” in 2025

The Oklahoma District Attorneys Association announced a statewide public awareness initiative for 2025 focused on protecting children's well-being across Oklahoma.

The campaign addresses child abuse, chronic school absenteeism, and access to support resources. Jack Thorp, president of the Oklahoma District Attorneys Council, emphasized that "every child deserves to grow up in an environment that is safe and supportive."

The effort concentrates on three main areas. Strengthening Public Policy: enhancing child protection laws and implementing tougher penalties for abusers while improving resources for at-risk children. Community Engagement: building partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and community organizations to establish support networks, intervention programs, and mentoring initiatives. Public Awareness: educating communities about the signs of child abuse and neglect while encouraging collective action to support vulnerable children.

All 27 of Oklahoma's District Attorneys will customize the initiative to address regional needs. Local prosecutors will coordinate with educators, law enforcement, community leaders, and parents on child safety initiatives. The Association plans expanded outreach throughout the year and welcomes public participation through volunteering, event attendance, and support for local child advocacy programs.
